What is floating
Floatation therapy involves 25cms of body temperature water and half a tonne of Epsom salt.
We spend 80% of our daily energy source fighting the effects of gravity.
Floatation creates a near zero gravity environment.
What does the research tell
Research suggests this therapy is beneficial for the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
It is also pointing to a restriction in the activity within the default mode network thus reducing the activation of the amygdala (fight or flight response).
How does floating work
Free from the weight of gravity the 80% of energy turns inwards to activate the blood flow, increasing circulation while stimulating both the lymphatic and digestive system.
This, in turn restricts the production of lactic acid, breaks down any lactic acid already in the system and places the body into a detoxification mode.
At the same time the whole peripheral nervous system glides into a state of stable balance placing the body into a deep state of rest and relaxation.
How can Floating help
One of the simplest ways that floating reduces stress is because it removes stimuli.
Many frequent floaters describe how unique the experience of floating can be: there is no other refuge in our busy world that all distractions, from work deadlines to traffic to even our families, are literally removed from the environment.
What are the benefits of floating
The body rests and repairs 4 times faster in a float environment than any other environment.
As we experience the world through our 5 senses where we are met by up to 2,000,000 pieces of info every second. The stimulation to these senses is restricted to allow our central nervous system to begin to slow down.
Our brain drifts from our usual alpha/beta brain waves into theta where our brain will release the same endorphins (body’s natural pain killer and mood enhancer) as 5-7 hours sleep. The whole skeletal structure has a chance to realign and decompress and we are afforded the experience of resetting.
We are born with over 300 bones (1/3 cartilage and tissue) at age 8/18months our bones fuse and form, this is also the time we take to our feet so the skeletal structure NEVER gets a chance to decompress and realign as it is always stimulated by contact.
Floating is described as the closest thing to being back in the womb. Pregnant ladies especially benefit from floatation due to the near zero gravity and increased blood flow helping to support a stress free system and increased circulation reducing the impact of oedema (fluid retention).
Like most people who do jiu jitsu I listen to a fair bit of the Joe Rogan Experience and like anyone who’s ever listened to JRE I’ve heard a lot about float tanks.
So when I heard one of my teammates at Samson, was setting up a float business I had to check it out.
Floating is an amazing experience, both mentally and physicaly.
Zero Gravity Float is a brilliant place can’t recommend it highly enough to absolutely everyone. Can’t wait to go back.

Today I had the pleasure of heading down to Zero Gravity Float to experience their zero gravity floatation pods ☯?, One thing that is for sure is that I will now 100% be introducing this into all of my fight camps ???
The lads down below have a great facility and there level of professionalism is 2nd to none. For anyone that has not yet tried this out I would HIGHLY recommend getting down there and experience it for themselves…
